Practice Yoga for Weight Loss
When you think of yoga, you might think of zen meditation and slow poses. While yoga certainly isn’t a cardio-heavy workout, it can promote weight loss. Researchers haven’t determined exactly why yoga promotes weight loss, but it may have to do with increased physical stamina and well being. Yoga helps improve body awareness, flexibility and discipline.
Try taking a yoga class for beginners. Wear comfortable clothes and don’t stress out if you aren’t able to make it into certain poses. If you’re unsure about working out with others, try yoga at home with a DVD. All you need is a thin mat that can generally be purchased for under twenty dollars.
As you become more experienced, make yoga part of your fitness routine by using poses to center yourself before a workout and cool down afterwards. You can also practice yoga to manage your stress and sleep better. Lowering stress and increasing sleep have been shown to improve weight loss results.
