Adjusting your Lap Band
The surgery to insert your Lap Band in St. Petersburg is one of the first steps on your weight loss journey. Once your body has adjusted to the Lap Band, your surgeon will have to start making adjustments. This typically occurs after approximately four to six weeks. Your surgeon will want to keep you in what is called the green zone. This means that when you eat proper portion sizes of food you will feel satisfied and will not be hungry in between meals, helping you to steadily lose weight. If this is not the case, then you may be due for another adjustment to your Lap Band.
Your Lap Band may need to have more fluid added to it if you are not losing weight. If the opening to your stomach pouch is too large then you are not benefiting from the full restrictive nature of the Lap Band. By simply adding more fluid, the Lap Band will help you to feel full with smaller portions. If the Lap Band is too tight, then you also may not be experiencing the full benefit of your weight loss surgery. When the gastric band is too tight you may experience a night cough, regurgitation, and discomfort when you are eating, even when the portions are small. If this is the case, then fluid may need to be removed from your Lap Band.
Keep in mind that you need to follow the recommended diet, eat the proper portions, and follow the exercise recommendations given to you by your surgeon if you want to experience the expected weight loss. While having the proper amount of fluid in your Lap Band is crucial, it is also important that you are following the lifestyle changes that your weight loss surgeon has implemented in order to successfully lose weight and keep the weight off for good.
